Emotional Facebook Live Ends in Suicide of Rajshahi Woman
In a tragic suicide of Rajshahi woman Rahima Akhter, aged 24, was broadcast live on Facebook, sending shockwaves through the community. The incident took place early Tuesday morning at a rented house in the Hall’s Mor area of Charghat Municipality. Rahima, whose husband Sayeem Islam Sagar works for a pharmaceutical company, was reportedly battling depression due to family issues.
According to Siddiqur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Charghat Police Station, Rahima’s parents had separated, and her mother remarried, leaving Rahima feeling isolated and distressed. This led her to attempt suicide multiple times in the past.
On the morning of the incident, Rahima went live on Facebook, where she shared her emotional turmoil, speaking about her parents and the pain she was enduring.
During the live stream, Rahima expressed her grief and helplessness, detailing her struggles with depression and the impact of her parents’ separation on her mental health.
She tearfully recounted her feelings of abandonment and loneliness, which she said had driven her to the brink of despair. After ending the live stream, she took her own life by hanging.
The police were alerted to the situation and promptly arrived at the scene, where they found Rahima’s lifeless body. Her body was subsequently sent to Rajshahi Medical College morgue for an autopsy. The authorities have filed an unnatural death case regarding the incident.
This tragic event underscores the critical need for mental health awareness and support systems, especially for individuals experiencing severe emotional distress.
